MotoGP Americas GP: Vinales tops opening practice from Martin, Acosta
MotoGP resumed after a three-week break following the cancellation of the Argentina round due to a lack of government funding, with the Circuit of the Americas hosting the first race since Liberty’s acquisition of Dorna. The track has been partially resurfaced with lap times over two seconds off the record. Maverick Vinales led the session after improving his time to 2m03.294s on fresh tires. Vinales held onto the top spot by 0.149 seconds, followed by Martin on the Pramac Ducati. Pedro Acosta impressed in third, while Marquez settled for eighth place. Lap times were competitive throughout FP1 as riders like Vinales, Acosta, Martin, Bezzecchi, and Marquez took turns at the front. Marc Marquez topped the standings initially before Martin and then Acosta set faster times. Vinales eventually secured the top position with his final flying lap. Prominent names like Enea Bastianini, Bezzecchi, and Brad Binder also showed strong performances in the session. Fabio Quartararo, fresh off signing a new contract with Yamaha, finished 13th, ahead of team-mate Alex Rins. Joan Mir placed 16th, leading the Honda challenge as Alex Marquez suffered a crash and ended up in 20th position.
